Main Garage Door carries Steel and Wood Garage Doors. Each type has its own warranty and requirements as shown below.
A. Steel Garage Doors 5-Year Limited Warranty
Main Garage Doors warrants its Steel Garage Doors to the original purchaser of its products that any part thereof, which proves to be defective within THREE years of date of purchase, will be replaced to the distributor without charge. This warrant does not extend to normal wear, or deterioration due to rust resulting from damage to the door section finish caused by fire, other accident or casualty, vandalism, radiation, animal wastes, excessive salts, harmful fumes or foreign substances in the atmosphere. Nor shall the warranty extend as a result of any physical damage after the door left the factory, or failure to provide reasonable, necessary and proper maintenance, or to cover any damages with respect to any products that in any way or degree have been altered, processed, misused or improperly handled or installed.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
Your door has been pre-finished with a baked on polyester paint system. To complete the finishing process, sponges wash the door with a mild powered detergent and warm water. Rinse and allow the door to dry before applying paint. Use a high quality exterior grade acrylic latex paint. Do not use an oil based/ alkyd paint. The paint can be applied with a roller; however, a superior finish will be obtained with an airless or HVLP spray gun. Prior to applying the paint, verify the paint manufacturer's painting instructions. Be careful not to get paint inside the tongue and groove edges. Failure to do so will result in the paint bonding the sections together, thus, making the door inoperable.
B. Solid Wood Garage Door 1-Year Limited Warranty
Main Garage Doors warrants its Wood Garage
Doors for a period of 1-year from the time of delivery against defect in
workmanship or material. All Main Garage Doors must be properly protected and
cared for according to the instructions and guidelines laid out by Main Garage
Doors herein.
All un-finished doors must be finished within
72 hours of receiving the door and due to the hygroscopic nature of lumber
should not be stored in an unfinished state beyond this period. Main Garage
Doors recommends that the garage doors should be finished prior to installation.
Main Garage Doors will
repair or replace (at our option) any garage door section or hardware
that is defective in material or workmanship pursuant to the terms of
this limited warranty. We will provide, at no cost to you,
sections/section components, hardware, or springs/spring components to
repair defective sections, hardware, spring/springs components. All
labor associated with the removal and reinstallation of any repaired
section/sections, hardware or spring components will be your
responsibility. We reserve the right to inspect and/or verify any
claimed defect.
Finishing Instructions for Paint Grade Doors
Surface Preparation - All surfaces must be clean, free of dirt, grease, dust, or any substance/material that will prevent paint adhesion. Any scarring that occurs during the shipping, handling and installation process must be re-sanded and to be free from defect. All surfaces should be sanded with 220 grit or greater sand paper going with the grain only.
Paint Grade Doors must receive a total of three coats of paint on all six sides of the garage door. This includes one coat of primer and two coats of exterior grade finish paint. Both, latex or alkyd paints are acceptable. Some species of wood such as cedar and redwood require tannin stain blocking primers and paints to prevent the acid from bleeding through. Please be aware of this as bleed through is not considered a defect and will not be covered under this warranty. Follow all instructions included with the paint manufacturer as well, failure to do so will void this warranty.
Doors must be caulked on all horizontal areas to prevent moisture penetration and trapping. Failure to properly caulk the horizontal boards will void this warranty. All V-Grooves or other areas that would allow moisture behind the trim must be filled. Yearly inspection of all surfaces of the doors will reveal the extent of weathering and need for refinishing. If weathering has occurred complete refinishing may be necessary on a yearly basis.
Finishing Instructions for Stain Grade Doors
Surface Preparation - All surfaces must be
clean, free of dirt, grease, dust, or any substance /material that will prevent
stain/sealer adhesion. Any scarring that occurs during the shipping, handling
and installation process must be addressed before staining and sealing. All
surfaces should be sanded with 220 grit or greater sand paper going with the
grain only. Following the manufacturer’s instructions, apply 3 coats of finish
to all exterior, interior and edges of each door section. After the finishing
process is complete all horizontal
boards and surfaces must be caulked to prevent moisture penetration behind the
trim. Failure to properly caulk will void the warranty.
Failure to properly finish all door section surfaces, including sides, back, bottom, face and joints, will void the warranty on the door. See our Warranty page for finishing instructions. Under no circumstances should the wood door be allowed to get wet prior to painting or staining or this warranty will be void.
Differences in grain and color variations are indicative of natural wood. These are considered product defects. Some variations in stain penetration may occur between materials from which the door is constructed.
Yearly inspection of all surfaces of each door will reveal the extent of weathering and need for refinishing. Your specific climate may demand a yearly refinishing process. Your annual inspection will ensure the longevity of your Main Garage Wood Door.
Sun and Water Exposure
Your particular environment must be accounted for in your door selection process. Taking the proper steps to protect the wood from sun and water will ensure the longevity of your Main Garage Wood Door.
Shrinkage and swelling are natural characteristics of lumber and are not considered to be defects.
Main garage Wood Door assumes no responsibility for lumber that is simply adjusting to their environment
by showing signs of shrinkage and swelling.
Bowing Checking and Warping
Exposure to the environment may cause bowing checking and/or cracking. These are not defects. They are only unforeseen and uncontrollable characteristics of natural wood. It is the sole responsibility of the dealer and the end user to select the type of material and/or door that will offer the best results and longevity in each climate and/or environment.
Dark Stains and Paints
Dark stains and paints excessively increase the heat of a wood door. Lumber cannot be expected to endure this excessive heat as it will create too much stress on the lumber resulting in cracking, warping, twisting, and basic fiber compromise. Any wood product that is placed under these circumstances will be void of warranty. Please consult with your dealer for further information.
Storage
Doors that are stored in an unfinished state past the allowed sealing time will void the warranty. When storing, doors must be laid flat with support every 36 inches to ensure that no abnormal bowing occurs. Doors stored in an unfinished state, unsupported or standing sections vertically will void the warranty.
Conditions Not Under Warranty
1. Doors that have been installed in direct sunlight.
2. Doors that do not have a proper over hang
such as an awning or a roof to protect the door properly. The overhang must be
at least '/2 the size of the height of the door.
3. Doors that are not finished with exterior oil based material.
Maintenance
Suggestions
1. Wood doors require
weekly cleaning simply by using a soft cloth with lemon oil or bee's wax.
2. Wood doors should be waxed every 2-3 months in order to preserve a clean coat
finish on them.
3. All wood doors require a re-coat on them with Polyurethane or Varathane
within the 2nd year of ownership to maintain the 3 year warranty standards.
